SSL
SSL is what allows visitors to access your published pages securely with https://.
For custom domains, SSL is an important part of a professional launch. Without active SSL, browsers may show warnings, visitors may lose trust, and conversion rates can suffer.
When SSL is needed
SSL is needed when:
- You connect a custom domain to Atomicat.
- You publish public campaign pages.
- You send paid traffic to a page.
- You collect leads through forms.
- You use checkout-related or product pages.
- You want visitors to trust the URL.
How SSL works in Atomicat
Atomicat can request and verify SSL for connected domains.
The typical flow is:
- Create a site.
- Connect a custom domain.
- Add the required DNS record.
- Verify the domain points to Atomicat.
- Request or check SSL.
- Add any extra SSL validation records if Atomicat shows them.
- Wait until SSL becomes active.
- Test the final URL using
https://.
SSL status
| Status or behavior | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Secured icon | SSL is active or the site is ready for secure access. |
| Unsecured icon | SSL may need to be requested or verified. |
| Pending | SSL validation has started but is not complete yet. |
| DNS verification | Additional DNS records may be required before SSL can activate. |
| In progress | The site or certificate setup is still processing. |
Why SSL can stay pending
SSL may remain pending if:
- DNS has not propagated yet.
- The domain points to the wrong value.
- A required validation record is missing.
- A CAA record prevents certificate issuance.
- The domain is already connected somewhere else.
- The site is still being deployed.
CAA and validation records
Some domains have CAA records that restrict which certificate authorities can issue SSL certificates.
If Atomicat shows a CAA-related instruction or extra validation record, add the record exactly as shown. After updating DNS, return to Atomicat and run the check again.
Best practices
- Verify DNS before checking SSL.
- Do not send paid traffic until HTTPS works.
- Test the root domain,
www, or subdomain exactly as users will visit it. - Avoid changing DNS while SSL is being issued unless instructed.
- Wait for propagation before repeating checks too quickly.
- Contact support if SSL remains pending after DNS is correct.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Browser says the connection is not secure | Confirm SSL is active and the URL uses the connected domain. |
| SSL pending for a long time | Recheck DNS and any validation records. |
| SSL active but page not loading | Confirm the page is published to the correct site and slug. |
| SSL validation record missing | Add the record shown by Atomicat at your DNS provider. |
| CAA issue | Add or update the required CAA record if Atomicat provides one. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I publish before SSL is active?
You can prepare pages, but you should not launch public traffic until HTTPS works correctly.
Does SSL activate instantly?
Not always. SSL depends on DNS propagation and certificate validation.
Do I need SSL for Atomicat domains?
Atomicat-managed domains are handled by the platform. Custom domains may require DNS and SSL verification steps.
Why does Atomicat ask me to check SSL again?
DNS and certificate validation can take time. Rechecking lets Atomicat confirm whether the required records are now visible.
