How to Add a WhatsApp Button
WhatsApp is a page-level contact component — you enable it once for the page (floating or positioned), not as a repeated content block you place many times.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- A page open in the Page Builder.
- A WhatsApp business / contact number in the format your market expects.
- A short prefilled message that identifies the offer or campaign.
- Optional Meta pixel ready if you want to track chat starts. See How to add pixels to a page.
Step 1: Enable WhatsApp on the Page
- Open Pages and click Edit on the target page.
- Open the WhatsApp component settings (page-level widgets area).
- Turn on Apply WhatsApp Button.
Unlike a normal Button element, WhatsApp is a singular component managed once per page.
See WhatsApp element (reference).
Step 2: Set Phone Number and Message
- Enter the phone number for WhatsApp routing.
- Write a short default message (for example “Hi! I came from the [offer] page”).
- Keep the message natural — very long texts can discourage visitors from sending.
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Phone | Controls which WhatsApp inbox opens. |
| Default message | Helps your team identify the campaign when the chat starts. |
Step 3: Choose Shape and Position
- Pick a shape: circular, square, or text.
- If you use text, add the chat label visitors should see.
- Set position (right, middle, or left) and new-tab behavior if available.
- Style color, size, spacing, and animation so the control stays readable and easy to tap.
Step 4: Optional Pixel Tracking
- If campaign reporting depends on chat starts, open the WhatsApp Facebook pixel click settings.
- Attach the click event to the Meta pixel configured for this page.
- Confirm the pixel list is valid under Page settings → Pixel.
See Pixels and tracking.
Step 5: Publish and Test
- Click Save, then Publish.
- Open the live page on desktop and mobile.
- Click the WhatsApp control and confirm the chat opens with the prefilled message.
- If a pixel is attached, verify the event in Meta event test tools.
Placement Tips
- Do not cover cookie notices, form submit buttons, or other floating controls.
- Pair WhatsApp with a normal form or Button CTA when chat is the secondary path.
- Test overlap on small screens after Cookie or Notification is also enabled.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Button does not appear | Confirm Apply WhatsApp Button is enabled and the page was republished. |
| Wrong chat opens | Recheck the phone number format for your market. |
| Message missing | Re-enter the default message and republish. |
| Pixel not firing | Confirm page Meta pixel is configured and the WhatsApp click event is selected. |
Outcome
Visitors can start a WhatsApp conversation from your published page with the correct number and prefilled campaign message.
